There has been a lot to prepare, with Jim and Maria being very busy surveying the course, organising the UCMA representatives to observe the attempt and attending to many many miscellaneus details.

The bike many of you already know - and already know how great it is. Maria's Silvio is yellow, the only one that colour. I guess when I made the first short run I hoped a beautiful colour would inspire Maria. Since Maria's 211 miles in 12 hours at Saratoga, we have done some minor adjustments to the handlebars and wheels. The handlebars we dropped a little lower and rotated forward to improve the airflow across the bars and onto the arms. We put wheelbuilder disk covers on the front and back.

We have a couple of spare bikes just in case and Doug Burton, our top wrencher and technical advisor will be on hand. Sadly, I won't be there. I'll be across the other side of the globe here in Perth as usual.

After doing 211 miles on a difficult course, then attending to further training and improving the bike a little, the new target of 220 miles seems reachable. What makes Maria a great champion for cruzbike is she believes in the product and is driven to show people how good it is. She wants people to ride and enjoy biking, for their health and for the sheer pleasure of life. I designed these products so I believe in them too, obviously, but Maria has a different context. She rode Jim's first conversion, loved it and got him to order another. Maria was part of the decision to form Cruzbike Inc in the US and start the process of bringing the MBB format to a wider market. Jim and Maria and Doug and me are all driven to do this.

Its relevant that I said bringing the product to market rather than commercialising it. Our aim is to get people to love their biking again by giving them a product that performs, that delivers speed, comfort and fun from the effort put into it. This record attempt is part of our concept of what being in this business is about: its about people, health and fun and a range of products that help enable and reinforce a positive lifestyle.
