Cateye gone

I have, errr, had a nice Rapid 3 safety rear light.
When riding on a very bumpy road, the vibration caused the insides of the light to fall out and get lost.
The picture shows the remains after the ride:

Will buy another one and wrap some fishing line around it. Wonder if it was just a defective unit or an inherent design fault...

Picture taken on the sidewalk of Copacabana beach - should have waited for some nice girls to pass by instead of three guys :).

Could have done better!

Yes, you could have gotten a better back ground picture for sure, probably 80 degrees there.
I have the Planet bike Protege bike computer and it's always popping out of the clip but, so far, I have always found it. Not sure how to secure it but if you come up with something, please let me know.

To me it was worth the

To me it was worth the investment. It is comfortable - I ordered the thicker one - and you really notice the ventilation difference when you move back to the regular one, specially on the back.
It is a single piece, not a two piece as the original one.
The seat part is not as wide as the original (probably 1 inch less), but that doesn't cause any discomfort.
I definitely recommend it.
Ahhh, when wearing just a swimming trunk, the original one is more gentle with your back.

Vibration and Bicycle Lights

Since all my rides take place on quiet country roads,
I usually can hear things, when they fall off the bike and hit the road.

The only thing that I lost permanently was my multi-function
bicycle tool, when the velcro closure on it's bag unzipped and I failed to hear
the thing hit the road.

My front light used to unscrew and turn itself off, due to vibration.
Now, besides having it mounted on innertube rubber, I've
taped the seams together with duct tape.
Actual duct tape.
The aluminum kind, made from aluminum, that's
used to tape up ducts.

My rear light disassembled itself a few times too,
and I was lucky enough to hear the bits clattering on the tarmac.
It too is taped together with duct tape.

The aluminum tape is light-proof, does not shrink and
stays stuck where it was applied.
Plus, it's shiny and does not look too out of place.

Sorry about your light, i0!

Ventsit and Cateye

Ventisit - that is the model I bought; the one that is not made for Vendetta. Shortbus, you could try to ask them to make the seat area slightly wider. They are very helpful and receptive to suggestions.
I'll take a comparison picture of the two seats and post it here tomorrow so you can have an idea of what you are ordering. But again, you can ride it as it is without any problem.

Cateye - bicycles can ride on very rough roads and even trails. A light (front or rear) that unscrews, disassembles, uncleats etc seems to me a faulty design. We should not be supposed to duct tape, wrap fishing lines, zip ties etc to keep our lights in place; this must be the first design requirement. Looks like manufacturers don't ride bicycles or we don't complain enough.

Well, I did complain and will get a replacement Rapid 3...

Bicycles?

Bicycles have only been around since 1817.
That's hardly enough time to sort out all the niggling little details!

On the other hand, maximising profit has always been in style.
Our fragile, light-weight plastic lights were made to sell.

On the other, other hand?
It's my fault: I ought to have shopped for lights that are made
of quality materials, are made to last and are designed to work.
Sort of like a bicycle version of the Maglite line of flashlights.
