It's all about trail and rake.

Thanks for the tip Ian. John T convinced me to go with maximum trail hence position 1, I will try 3 and see how I go. I use the bike on my morning commute from Hillarys to Joondalup, riding into a howling Northeasterly in the morning and then a roaring Southwesterly in the afternoon. The low aero position is great but I am still struggling with takeoff, especially up hill, still having to Fred Flintstone away from the lights.

I can't bring myself to mothball the TREK DF is is so light and flys like a bird, surprisingly I never get sore on it. I use it for blasts to Freo on the weekend coming home with the Southwesterly behind me, one of life simple pleasures!

Do the forks need to be backwards?

I would see if you can run them forwards. Might increase stability a lot.

In what way and why would stability be increased, noting the brackets mounting to the forks already carry the axle a further 2" forward? Are you aiming for negative trail?

I'm assuming Rampa missed the fact that the axle is no longer seated in the fork itself, but rather the braces a couple inches in front...
