SRAM Red Noise

If you run SRAM Red and are bothered by the noisy drive I may have the solution for you.

SRAM Red has a reputation for being noisier than Campy or Shimano. I did not experience a mechanical clicking noise it is a loud buzzing that could not be eliminated. High gears were not bad but lower gears were noisy. When I adjusted the RD the noise just moved from low to high gears . At one point I had it tuned so that gears 13 and 14 were quiet 15 was noisy and 17 was quiet. It was driving me nuts so I took the bike to a SRAM tech for tuning but the problem persisted.

On a friends advice I got recently rid of the PC1090 chain and installed a KMC X10SL. The drive was immediately whisper quiet in every gear combination. If You`re running a SRAM red group and have the same problem try swapping out the chain for a KMC .
