Tale of 2 Centuries

I've ridden 2 centuries in my life.

The 1st was in 1991, just to see if I could [I'd just turned 40]. Minimal training, but I survived & finished the all-urban course...on an unsuspended steel-frame MTB, fitted with high-pressure slicks & bar-ends to provide some grip options. My neck & wrists [& assorted other parts] were numb for half the ride, requiring frequent stops to stretch & restore circulation. I was sore for a week.

The 2nd was this month, on a whim. Same course...21 years later. Considerably less training than for the 1st ride, but I climbed off my Quest 2.0 after 103 miles & nothing hurt. I was plenty tired, but felt great & recovered quickly. The only variables of consequence were: a] I was 50% older; b] I had a comfortable & efficient bike.

Thanks, Cruzbike.
