V20 a reward of rewards

Glad you like it; it's an easy build and the goal was to demystify the process.

I have not used the 3D24 myself but it's a good looking crank. It appears it should fit. The 3D+ did not because of the 30mm spindle. The 3D did work so that's why I suspect the 3D24 will too; just expect it to be a little more difficult to get your Front Derailleur dialed in; aka don't install on a grumpy day, the Rotor "loading" process just seems like it's not going to work and then it just does; it's really tempting to screw the silver end cap on way too tight. Follow the directions closely. If the crank doesn't spin freely you have it two tight. All washers and spacers go on the drive side; and I would recommend using two wave washers

Your link is correct that's the 24x24 version. You want the Road one. It comes with different instructions and spacers appropriate for road applications. Chris will take good care of you and just let them know how you found them, and mention that I said you will need two wave washer for the install. http://enduroforkseals.com/id240.html

Thanks Ratz, I posted the same question (and mentioned the forum, etc.) to Chris but got an "out of office" reply...they're all gone for the week. When I order, I'll make sure I request the right stackup of washers. Much appreciated info.
Not only is the V on backorder (July delivery expected) but I've still got to lighten the engine by at least another 25-30lbs before I can ride it...probably August-Sept. Heck, I've lost 80lbs since October...

That's more impressive than getting a new Vendetta. Well done. I've been on this low carb diet that many of us are doing... and getting the last few pounds off seems to be the hardest. Keep with it. This Cruzbike experience will completely change you... well it did me.

Sorry, I lied about October...I started Jan 28th, 2016. Miz Diane started in October 2015 and I get them mixed up. Miz Diane and I decided that with 5yrs to retirement, we'd better get healthy. She got new knees in Oct (both at the same time ) and started ahead of me. We're not exactly doing the "low carb", it is a program managed by the local hospital. Very low calorie (I spent 12 weeks on just 980cal/day), exercise and lifestyle training (stop focusing on food, you fat SOB!). Still, I plan on adopting the Primal stuff as we wind down on this program. I gotta lose another 50 to do that...and then another 50 to get where I really want to be (<200).
As far as Cruzbike goes, I built my first Conversion kit in 2009, upgraded to a V2/K a couple years later (still riding it). Well and truly hooked. The V is my "reward" (or carrot, depends on how you look at it) for getting healthy again.

Now that is a proper reward.

Yah, I'm still on 1100+/- per day. I was 377. I never got cravings...but for the first few weeks, Miz Diane was eyein' me like I was a walking steak dinner. I hid all the kitchen knives.
Probably should be discussing this elsewhere in the forum.
Cravings for Vendetta...had those since John T rolled out the first one.

Ah, moved to a more appropriate place to discuss such things. Thank you, whoever it was!

More background info: I was FD&H (fat, dumb & happy, riding a couple centuries a year, etc.) until I hurt myself in 2010 playing racquetball. It kept me off the bike for a few weeks. Then my riding partner (my elder brother Don) had some health issues and quit riding. I succumbed to the ravages of TV and lack of exercise...putting on well over 100lbs in just a few months. I spent the next 4 yrs in the mid-to-high 300's before having health issues of my own. After having a variety of specialists look at me (inside and out), all roads lead to weight; I had too much of it.

Now, I've been on diets almost my entire life...and I'm 59. I lost the most I'd ever lost on Atkins...but one slip and *poof* it is back on. Miz Diane was in the same boat I was (though a tad younger)

So...in 2014, two guys in my office go off the deep end and start this Hospital-managed program. One guy loses 160lbs and the other 200lbs...and they keep it off. I talk to them off and on for a year before deciding to go 'interview' with the program director. Miz Diane goes for the 2nd interview (we're right in their butter-zone for candidates) and after she has reasonably recovered from double-knee replacement surgery, we simply say, "Let’s do it". Of course, the program isn't covered by insurance. Not cheap either.

You get full blood panels initially to establish a baseline and then a blood panel every other week thereafter (for 18 wks). First 6 weeks is liquids only (four 160-170 cal 'protein drinks' and two 170 cal 'soups' per day for me, total = ~980cal/day). At week 7, you get to substitute two of the liquid meals with an equivalent protein bar (something to chew).

Every week you attend a 1hr training class...and meet with a clinician (nutritionist, behaviorist, nurse, Dr., director, etc.). It is a little like AA for fat people and a little like "Weight Watchers" meetings...but with legit health-care people.

The diet is high protein/low carb...not 'no-carb'. At week 12, you start eating regular food...that you shop for at the grocery store and prepare yourself. About every two weeks thereafter, you are cleared to take on another meal of ‘regular food’. We're on week 20 and making lunch, Dinner and a snack. Oh, and you hit the gym a minimum of 4 days a week. Food and exercise logging is required (MyFitnesspal works great for this).

For the first 12 weeks, I lost 4lbs per week...almost a straight-line graph. Having regular food has dropped that a bit, I'm hovering around 2-3lbs per week at the moment. I had promised myself that I wouldn't get back on the bikes until I got to 275...but Bro' Don convinced me to try...and the old 700c V2/K stepped up to the plate, no problem. Gym work helped there a lot, it was like I’d never stepped off the bike.

Reward: the program behaviorist loves to talk about 'rewards'. Break a habit, reward yourself. Meet a goal, reward yourself. Ya gotta write 'em down and make them realistic (and fun). So...he looks at my #1 'reward' and asks, "What do you mean by "Vendetta?". Oh yeah…and Miz Diane doesn’t even blink an eye.

Marc, congratulations on that HUGE 45 Kg weight loss!!!
Thanks!

Next goal is just another 25lbs. Current estimate is for mid October. Achieving that goal changes the experience considerably. There are three levels ("phases") used by the clinic for this 'lifestyle reprogramming':
  • "Active Phase" is where you consume nothing but liquids. For us, that was the initial 18wks.
  • "Transition Phase", where you learn everything you need to know. This phase ends when you get to your Dr.-recommended "Goal" ,in my case, between 240 and 250 lbs (109-113kg). Time is immaterial, you move out of Transition when you get to the goal. Should be around week 35 or so (mid-October) for us.
  • "Maintenance Phase" = the rest of your life. Mandatory weekly meetings become bi-weekly and non-mandatory (but recommended). All of the clinicians are available for consultation (via appointment) for the rest of your life (or the Zombie Apocalypse, whichever comes first). Otherwise: you're on your own. Come back and see us soon. So long and thanks for all the fish. yadda, yadda, yadda. You do get the std. "before and after" pix. I've saved a pair of my old Liberty Overhauls so that I can be photographed standing in one of the legs.
Personal goals are encouraged, of course. I would like to get down to <200lbs (<90kg)...probably Spring of next year.

Your next goal reward can be a nice kickr to do aerobic training on in pursuit of the < 200 goal.
