Inaugural W&OD Trail Ride
Welcome to our blog! We love riding our new Sofriders and can’t wait to share our experiences with you.
This weekend was our first bike ride on the Washington and Old Dominion (W&OD) Trail. A mere 5 miles from our house, we utilized the many bike paths in Reston to access the trail. At first, we planned to ride to the W&OD trail so we could determine if we liked the route we chose to get there. But by the time we reached the trail, we still had plenty of energy, so we decided to ride from Herndon to Vienna (and back). The entire trail spans 45 miles from Alexandria to Purcellville and follows what was previously a railroad line. The large bike lanes and frequent water stops make it an ideal place to ride.
Even on this extremely hot afternoon, we passed many riders and joggers. Almost every time we stopped to cross a road or take a break, someone would approach us and ask about our bikes. We love our cruzbikes because we were able to ride 23 miles comfortably and could have gone further. We look forward to many more rides in the area and along the trail!

It will be great to see more
It will be great to see more CruzBikes out on the W&OD! I haven't seen any others yet, although one guy who stopped to talk to me said he used to have a conversion.
I'm just 4 miles from the trail in Sterling and I use my silver Sofrider on the W&OD all the time. I usually ride from Rte. 28 to Purcellville and back on hurricane-free weekends. I also use it to commute to my work in Herndon a couple of times each week on earthquake-free weekdays. I even did my first organized ride on the W&OD this April - the half century Paul's Ride For Life.
Thanks for your message! We
Thanks for your message! We occasionally see other recumbent bikes on the trail, but like you- no other cruzbikes so far. We access the trail in Reston and frequently ride west toward Leesburg, as there are less cross-overs that way. We’d like to ride to Purcellville and back, but we’re slowly building our endurance for the 60 mile ride. Let us know if you’re organizing another ride!
We'll look for you on the trail!
