Silvio Assembly FAQ for 2009 Model

Please check the following questions and answers if you have questions on assembly of your Silvio.

a) The rubber trim for the seat edges just adds weight.

You can leave the seat edges naked if you prefer. If you like to lean the bike up without being too fussy about it, then fit the rubber edge trim.

My front shock deflates, won't hold air

1) The air chamber on the front shock is very small. If you use a normal pump on the air shock, or if you incorrectly use the special shock pump supplied, then all the air pumped in then escapes when you unscrew the pump. Resolution: follow the supplied instructions for using the shock pump. Read the instructions in detail here.

2) If you are practiced at using the shock pump and the air shock still deflates, clean or replace the valve, as with any Schrader valve.

3) Rarely, the valve body needs to be snugged-up into the valve stem using a tire valve tool like you can get at the auto parts store.

DO NOT disassemble any part of the air shock fork.

b) The rear brake hole is too small.

Occasionally, paint invades the recessed nut hole when the fork is painted. This is not uncommon to need to have this hole cleared.

A dremel tool with a small grinding stone makes it very easy and quick; you can also use a 3/8 inch drill bit with masking tape wrapped around the shank to clear the paint. (Don't forget the tape, or you'll cut your hand.) Another method is to wrap a tight cylinder out of sandpaper and rotate it in the hole.

When you finish removing the paint, the hole will be a tiny bit over 10mm, which will accept the nut head very tightly, which is what we are looking for. A touch of bike grease or petroleum jelly placed on the walls of the hole will make the nut turn in nicely, do this with a paintbrush; or a q-tip.

c) Installing the front brake, the nut seems loose.

Unlike the rear 10mm hole for the nut, the front has a 13mm hole. The caliper recessed nut pulls down on the fork relief to 70in-lbs. with no problem and no looseness of the caliper.

d) How many head spacers?

We have added a third headset spacer to your Silvio frameset.  Use the combination that allows the stem cap to tighten the headset stack.

e) The rear elastomer is upgraded.

The elastomer for the rear shock has been updated to a black cork-shaped elastomer, which has a better range of dampening road vibrations.
